2012-2013 School Year in Review

This has been a fantastic school year for the Ishahayi Beach School Foundation, and we’ve seen real change at our project sites! With funds raised at our 2nd Annual Silent Auction, through book sales and also a jumble sale, we were able to begin construction of a second classroom building at the Light Nursery and Primary School. Money raised through our inaugural online fundraising campaign, hosted by GlobalGiving, will allow us to finish and furnish the new building–hopefully before the start of the next school year. Several board members left us to move on to new adventures and new hard-working board members joined our team! Here are some of our accomplishments during the past school year:

  • Donated school bags filled supplies to students at the Ife Oluwa School in Lekki
  • Provided volunteers to help paint the school building at Ife Oluwa
  • Donated children’s books to the Salvation Army Primary School in Ikaare
  • Purchased new and more appropriately-sized motor for the school boat at Ishahayi
  • Delivered socks donated by the Broken Ground School to the students at Ishahayi and continued our “Sister School Pen-pal” project
  • Delivered a new Nigerian flag to the Light Nursery and Primary School at Ishahayi
  • Delivered wrapped a Christmas gift (donated by the British High Commission) to each student and teacher
  • Purchased, delivered, and assembled a new drum set for the school with money donated by the British Women’s Group
  • Continued to bring school supplies and first aid supplies to the school
  • Provided bleach for borehole and fuel for the generator
  • Supported the hiring of an additional teacher to improve student:teacher ratio
  • Initiated and oversaw construction of a second school building

Thanks to our many friends and supporters for their generosity this year. Because of your concern, we’ve been able to fund many important projects. We believe in this work. Many, many coconuts to you!
