We have had another successful year supporting both the Light School at Ishahayi and the Ife Oluwa Primary School at Lekki. We are grateful to our dedicated board members, tenacious volunteers and the network of friends and family who continue to dedicate funds and time to our cause. Great things are happening because of you–and at this time of year we can reflect on how far we’ve come! Here are just some of the projects IBSF completed during the 2013-2014 school year:
- Dedicated the second classroom building at the Light School
- Received a donation from Netcom to update internet access at the Light School
- Distributed backpacks to deserving young readers
- Funded and installed a new “noiseless” generator at the Light School
- Added secondary classes at the Light School and supported the hiring of two secondary school teachers
- Supported the hiring of an additional primary school teacher at the Light School to improve student:teacher ratio
- Built a new kitchen outbuilding at the Light School
- Transported a donated refrigerator out to the Light School
- Provided grant money for an Eagle Scout Project that delivered new playground equipment to Ife Oluwa
- Provided funds for building upgrades and supplies at Ife Oluwa
- Hosted a successful Kitchen Shower to restock kitchen equipment at both schools
- Continued to provide bleach for borehole and fuel for the generator
- Gave a wrapped Christmas gift to each student at both the Light School and Ife Oluwa and a holiday gift bag to each teacher
- Donated new storybooks to the library in each school
- Brought many new visitors (more than 39 new faces this year!) out to the Light School for monthly visits to see our work in progress
Many coconuts to you for your continued support. We are making a difference here in Nigeria!
